About Johnny Crain and RunFitCoach

The Problem We’re Solving

Most running apps give everyone the same plan with different mileage numbers. Pace zones come from generic tables. Strength work is either missing or disconnected from the running. And when life disrupts the plan, you’re on your own.

RunFitCoach is built around a different idea: pace, strength load, and recovery all need to respond to the same athlete’s fitness, fatigue, and life circumstances in real time — not just at plan creation. Your FIT Score drives every pace zone. Strength workouts build themselves based on how you actually feel. The plan adjusts when reality changes.

Who Built It

RunFitCoach was created by Johnny Crain, a coach and runner who’s spent his entire adult life inside the sport.

Johnny is a four-time Olympic Trials qualifier with a 2:12:55 marathon PR. He’s a four-time NCAA national champion, 10-time All-American, and was inducted into the North Central College Hall of Fame in 2024. He raced professionally for On ZAP Endurance and was featured in On Running’s “Chasing Tokyo” documentary series. He’s finished top 10 at US Championships three times.

But RunFitCoach didn’t come from the racing career. It came from the coaching. Since 2016, Johnny has coached hundreds of runners — from people lacing up for their first 5K to athletes qualifying for the Olympic Trials, with hundreds of Boston qualifiers in between. He’s worked in running retail, coached at the D-I level at Oklahoma, organized races and camps, and spoken at RRCA national conventions. He’s seen the sport from every angle.

That experience revealed the same pattern over and over: runners needed training that adapted to them in real time, not a static PDF. RunFitCoach is the answer — the same philosophy Johnny uses with his coached athletes, built into software that any runner can use.
